Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
